Weekly Market & Ecosystem Updates (June 1)

Markets Diverge as AI Narratives Surge, Backpack Launches Stocks & New Airdrop Opportunities Emerge

Traditional markets continue making new highs while crypto struggles with ETF outflows and weak price action. Meanwhile, AI, robotics, and compute narratives gain momentum, Backpack launches stock trading, and several new airdrop opportunities emerge.

Market Overview

Traditional markets continue to show strength, with the S&P 500 recording another all-time high and extending its winning streak to nine consecutive weeks. The latest MSCI rebalance shifted roughly $33 billion in capital, creating pressure on Nvidia while software stocks surged higher. Microsoft broke through a major resistance level and gained nearly 9%, reinforcing bullish sentiment across the software sector.

Crypto, however, continues to lag behind traditional markets.

Bitcoin experienced its worst ETF outflow streak on record and remains under pressure despite strength in equities. The asset is currently testing a key technical support area that has historically acted as an important trendline. While short-term weakness persists, several technical indicators suggest Bitcoin may be approaching a local bottom, with the potential for a relief rally over the coming weeks.

A major factor weighing on markets is the ongoing IPO season, which continues to absorb liquidity from risk assets.

Bitcoin & Macro Narrative

Bitcoin briefly fell below $72,000 after Strategy ($MSTR) sold 32 BTC last week — its first Bitcoin sale since 2022. The sale generated approximately $2.5 million at an average price of $77,000 per BTC.

Market speculation suggests the sale may have been intended to satisfy requirements for potential inclusion in the S&P 500, though this remains unconfirmed.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin's largest liquidity cluster now sits near $74,500, creating a key upside target should buyers regain control.

Bitcoin continues to underperform several major assets and indices, including:

  • Gold

  • US Dollar

  • Nasdaq

  • S&P 500

The recent selloff accelerated following the Clarity Act, with many viewing it as a classic "sell-the-news" event. Reports of a $1.3 billion dark pool trade involving BlackRock's IBIT ETF further intensified bearish sentiment.

Rotation Into New Narratives

As Bitcoin and Ethereum struggle, capital continues rotating into alternative narratives.

Near Protocol and Hyperliquid have seen growing demand and mindshare, while AI infrastructure, compute, and robotics-related projects continue attracting attention. On Base, GPU-focused projects remain among the strongest performers, with Venice emerging as a clear market leader and numerous new projects launching around the AI compute theme.

Some traders who have lost confidence in Bitcoin are rotating into privacy-focused assets such as Zcash, while others are moving away from Ethereum toward ecosystems like Near and Hyperliquid.

The broader trend remains unchanged: strong narratives continue to attract capital regardless of fundamentals, with liquidity quickly rotating between sectors.

Ethereum & Ecosystem Developments

The Ethereum Foundation has undergone significant internal changes, with several key contributors departing in recent months.

Vitalik Buterin recently stated that the Foundation plans to reduce ETH sales going forward while focusing on a leaner organizational structure. Core priorities remain:

  • Censorship resistance

  • Openness

  • Privacy

  • Security

Ethereum sentiment remains weak following multiple exploits across the ecosystem.

One notable incident involved Fluid, which lost more than $200,000 in a recent exploit.

Looking Ahead

AI agents, robotics, and compute infrastructure remain among the strongest emerging themes. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently stated that the era of "Agentic AI" has begun, reinforcing growing interest in AI-related sectors.

As IPO activity cools, market attention may shift away from current leaders and toward new narratives, particularly robotics and AI infrastructure projects.

Space-related stocks are also showing signs of increased momentum, which could spill over into crypto markets through thematic and meme-driven speculation.
